TANGOALPHA3 IS EXCITED TO HIGHLIGHT THE MANY EXCELLENT VETERANS WE’VE ASSISTED IN FINDING JOB PLACEMENTS.
The Veteran Spotlight series is a chance for us to catch up with our community of veteran talent. We discuss things like how their current job placement is going, what it was like while on the job hunt, as well as any challenges they may have faced while transitioning from the military to the private sector. In the end, it’s a great way to highlight excellent people and provide an inside vantage point into some of the services we provide and industries we serve.
GABRIEL RESTO
WE RECENTLY SAT DOWN WITH GABRIEL TO CATCH UP AND ASK HIM ABOUT HIS EXPERIENCE WITH THE JOB HUNT AND WE’RE GRATEFUL FOR THE PRACTICAL ADVICE GABRIEL SHARED WITH US.
What is a typical day at work like for you?
A typical day of work for me is like right were left off in Military. What I mean is that there is always something to learn and do. Even being a Subject Matter Expert, you must be open minded on opinions and suggestions that others have. I do have an advantage because everything is the same since its DOD, only difference is that I am not a Soldier anymore.
Did you face any challenges when you first transitioned from the military into the private sector?
I really must say that I really didn’t, maybe because I was ready to be in the Private Sector. I was mentally prepared to transition, I think that is what helped me. Being a leader in the Army has taught be to adapt and overcome all situations. Sometimes taking a step back and analyzing what is in front of you will make you take decisions that are hard with confidence.
What was your initial job search experience like?
My initial job search experience was surprising, but same time promising because I knew that I put in the work during my 14 years in the service and took time to write my resume to everything that I did. My Job experience in the military helped me find this Job. But of course, I was surprised how fast TangoAlpha3 contacted me, and I was very excited because I knew that the hard work is paying off.
How has your military training and experience helped you in the private sector?
My Military training and experience fits right in where I am at. I was a Sr. Cable installer in the army, and I took pride of my work. I am glad that I didn’t let my years in the Army past me by and instead I took advantage of learning what my job is.
What advice would you give to transitioning veterans looking for their first job after leaving the military?
My advice to all transitioning Veterans looking for their first Job after leaving the Military is that you must put in the work on yourself to succeed. Never take anything for granted, there are tons of resources that are out there for us Veterans. I know you probably hear this everywhere, put please believe me its very true. I thought it was just a slogan, but it really isn’t. All these resources are here to help us and guide us to a successful life after leaving the military, so don’t think feel like that you are alone but feel that you are wanted and thanked for all your sacrifice to this Nation.
